Indigence, lack of education for children especially girls, poor roads, and lack of proper nutrition are some of the major issues in Sarai Kharbuza. There is one STAR School in Sarai Kharbuza that runs in the morning and in the afternoon as well. Hence, it gives education to a total of 92 children that are residents of the area. In the afternoon, 40 students come to school out of which 18 are boys and 22 are girls. The STAR School in Sarai Kharbuza- II is specifically for children who are sufferers of child labor.
The residents of this community usually work in the nearby factories. Nimko which is a salty yet crispy snack is produced and packaged in small factories in Sarai Kharbuza and in nearby areas. Some children of this area work in the local factories to produce and package Nimko. Locally made chips, graham paste noodles, and pulses are produced and packaged in this area as well.
The STAR school Sarai Kharbuza – II starts at 1 pm and is suitable for girls and boys who work in the factories during the day. After they get done with their work, they come to the STAR school Sarai Kharbuza to get an education free of cost. At STAR school Sarai Kharbuza, the children are provided with books, notebooks, backpacks, and stationery. The parents of these children don’t have to worry about paying the fee and buying school supplies for the children. There is no transport cost either as the heart of the community.
The STAR school teacher Khalida shared that the children are passionate about getting an education and come to school happily even after working 5-6 hours a day.
