PAGE inaugurated its 7th Star Schools in Chajaar Colony in Bari Imam to reach out of Out of School Girls under ‘Educate A Child ‘program – an initiative led by American Refugee Committee in collaboration with Education Above All-Qatar
Islamabad: – ARC Pakistan in partnership with Education Above All (EAA) initiated its “Million kids to school” Program with an aim to bring one million Out of School Children (OOSC) in to schools in January 2018. As one of the partner organizations Pakistan Alliance for Girls Education (PGAE) is the primary resource mobilizer and fund raiser and engages with policy makers and duty bearers to support them with better laws, policies and procedures for Out of School Children. PAGE has plans to set up a total of 100 Star Schools as one of the strategies to increase girl’s access to education. These schools will be opened in all four provinces and AJK and GB. So far six schools have been opened in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Gilgit Baltistan and the seventh school was opened in Chajaar Colony in Bari Imam.
Ms. Joanna Roper, CMG Special Envoy for Gender Equality, Government of UK, Ms. Amina Sheikh, Actress and PAGE’s Global Ambassador, Senator Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, MNA Mr. Shehryar Afridi inaugurated the new school in Bari Imam along with Ms. Nadia Bukhari and Waseem Ahmed who are working as ambassadors to raise awareness on girls’ education both nationally and internationally. The school will provide non-formal education to girls who are either dropped out of schools or have never been to one for three years and later these girls will be enrolled in middle school in mainstream education system.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Fajer Pasha Executive Director Pakistan Alliance for Girls Education, said that “we have stakeholders from corporate to media to donors to government on board, everyone has one aim to ensure all children have equal right to exercise their right to education. With every new opening of a school we all are one step closer to achieving our collective dream.”
